Since debuting in 2000 after being trained by Scott D'Amore, Chris Sabin cut his teeth on the independent circuit over the next couple of years, wrestling for such companies as Border City Wresting, IWA Mid South, XICW and Cleveland All-Pro Wrestling.

Chris made his NWA: TNA in 2002, and quickly won his first of eight X-Division Championships. Chris has competed in the most Ultimate X Matches than any other wrestler. He has also competed in Super X and World Cup Tournaments.
Chris would compete mostly in TNA's X-Division until the Motor City Machine Guns were formed in 2007. Sabin teamed with Alex Shelley as the Motor City Machine Guns (originally the Murder City Machine Guns). Feuding with Team 3D, British Invasion, Beer Money and others. They won the TNA World Tag Team Titles from Beer Money. The Machine Guns also won numerous other Tag Titles in other companies. [See Title History Below]. They continued to team until Shelley's departure from TNA in 2012. Chris had time off in 2012-2013 recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL, he made his return on May 2nd 2013 and quickly won the X-Division title. Chris vacated his X-Division title for a shot at Bully Ray's TNA World Heavyweight Championship, and on July 18th captured the title, although he would soon lose it back to Bully in a Steel Cage Match. Sabin would win the X-Division Title two more times before leaving TNA in May 2014. |
Chris made his debut for Ring Of Honor at "Night Of The Grudges" in 2003, against Homicide, John Walters and Justin Credible. On his next show, he would go against AJ Styles for NWA World Heavyweight Title.
In 2004, Chris competed in the first round of the Pure Wrestling Title Tournament, losing against Doug Williams. Chris unsuccessfully challenged Bryan Danielson for the ROH World Title in 2005. Sabin returned in 2007 with Alex Shelley in a losing effort against The Briscoes for the ROH World Tag Team Titles. The Motor City Machine Guns wrestled against Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black, The Briscoes, Austin Aries & Bryan Danielson and Kevin Steen & El Generico in the early part of 2008. It was two more years until the Guns made another ROH appearance, losing against Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli in a ROH World Tag Team Title Match. |
On August 25, 2006 at Korauken Hall's ZERO-1 MAX show, Sabin and Alex Shelley became ZERO-1 MAX International Lightweight Tag Team Champions, when they defeated former champions, Ikuto Hidaka and Minoru Fujita.
They held the titles for nearly two years, before dropping them to Minoru Fujita, and his new tag team partner, Takuya Sugawara, on April 6, 2008. On January 4, 2009, Sabin and Shelley defeated No Limit (Tetsuya Naito and Yujiro) at New Japan Pro Wrestling's Wrestle Kingdom III to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. After three successful title defenses, two of which took place in TNA, Sabin and Shelley lost the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Titles to Apollo 55 (Prince Devitt and Ryusuke Taguchi) on July 5, 2009, at New Japan Pro Wrestling's Circuit 2009 New Japan Soul. On December 11 the Motor City Machine Guns were defeated by No Limit in their New Japan return match. The following day they defeated Apollo 55 in the fourth match between the two teams. |
